Words of WisdomAdvanced Accelerated TherapySeptember 2007 ![]() Is there an alternative to conventional counseling? Although conventional Talk Therapy has its place in our society, people are looking for something quicker, easier and affordable. More and more people are going to the complementary side of health care, looking for alternative ways of handling illness, so are there alternative ways of handling our emotional issues? Some of you may be familiar with Psychotherapy, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) or Intentional Focused Awareness (IFA). All of these offer the alternative to conventional psychology with rapid results. What would normally take several months or even years to find relief from emotional pain can happen in minutes or hours with these alternatives to the conventional. Psychotherapy, the word, literally means a 'cure for the soul'. Psychotherapy is an interactive process that includes many methods and techniques to help people deal with issues that are preventing them from living fully. Psychotherapy assumes we are capable of a greater degree of conscious control of our lives. Rather than relying on medications or on rules, it helps people grow and improve their lives using various other techniques and approaches as described below. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a psychotherapeutic tool based on a theory that negative emotions are caused by disturbances in the body's energy field and that tapping on the meridians while thinking of a negative emotion alters the body's energy field, restoring it to "balance." Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) studies the structure of how humans think and experience the world. It is also a field of study of a set of practices related with positively modifying behavior. Its theoretical foundation rests on a range of disciplines, including various psychological fields, linguistics, cognitive science and occupational therapy. Intentional Focused Awareness (IFA is a way of paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally. It shares some aspects of meditation, but it is a more engaged. Mindfulness can be thought of as a consciousness discipline - a profound spiritual discipline - aimed at deep self-reflection, self-knowledge, and liberation from confining views of self, others, and the world. It is our hope, at the 8th Side, that you find what you are looking for in terms of your hopes, dreams, aspirations and desires. When your past catches up with you, you now know that you do have options for therapy and you may just choose the alternative. |
