Words of WisdomNothing Says I Love You More...December 2007 ![]() …than a Christmas tree loaded with gifts. In just 20 sleeps we will all wake up to Christmas morning. The stockings are hung by the chimney with care knowing that St. Nicholas soon will be there. Already the hustle and bustle has begun and the stores are being crowed with present hunters, looking for the perfect gift(s) for giving. As the crowds grow thicker, the people grow more frustrated and irritated at the line-ups at the cash registers and the disappointment is felt in the air when Wal-mart sells out of the hottest toy. Our patience runs thin as the guy next to you grabs the same thing you were reaching for and the screaming child gets on your last nerve as you throw him a hateful glance and stomp away. Are you loading your carts with joy and love or are you just surviving the mall and can’t wait to get home, just to face the tedious task of wrapping all that you’ve bought. Does this feel like the true meaning of Christmas? I have some tips for you on how to enjoy holiday shopping and survive the crowds. 1. Mentally prepare yourself before you go out shopping. There will be people out there who hate Christmas shopping and are just doing it because they have to. If you know this ahead of time, you will not take it personally. Have visions of sugarplums dance in your head. 2. Have aces up your sleeve to keep you in the holiday spirit. Christmas is about giving, not just gifts, but giving of yourself. Sing a Christmas carol to yourself as you are doing your shopping to keep you cheerful and upbeat. A wink of an eye and a twist of your head, some will soon know they had nothing to dread. 3. Give the gift of love and holiday cheer. Show those around you that Christmas is fun. Bring good cheer to your shopping adventure and while standing in those long line ups, chat with your neighbor and wish them a warm holiday season. And before you go and drive out of sight, wish Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night. If you get lost in this Holiday Season and are having a hard time tapping into your happy place, this is where we come in.
